From Good to Great: The Next Step in Chilean Energy Efficiency

A range of stakeholders—politicians, scholars, technical experts—agree that energy efficiency should be a priority in any long-term energy policy. Energy efficiency is the first pillar of Chile’s 2012–2030 National Energy Strategy, which aims to reduce 2020 projected energy consumption by 12 percent. However, Chile’s current energy efficiency efforts are good, but not great. More is needed to help the country reach its full potential.

NRDC collaborated with Chilean and international experts to identify public policies, based on experiences in other countries, that could help Chile unlock its energy efficiency potential. We recommend that the national government transparently build a strong framework for Chile's long-term energy efficiency expansion that includes effective, proven strategies for specific sectors.
