Angelenos may soon enjoy cleaner air, faster transit and safer streets thanks to a plan to advance congestion pricing. And for commuters, it could mean getting back 100 hours a year lost to congestion.

The LA Metro’s board directed Metro staff to embark on a 24-month congestion pricing feasibility and equity study that will set the stage for enabling legislation and a pilot project.

Kudos especially is owed to the Metro Directors who authored the key board motion: County Supervisors Hilda Solis and Janice Hahn; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Metro Director Jackie Dupont-Walker; and Inglewood Mayor James Butts.

The equity approach will build off of work from NRDC and TransForm's equity report, “Pricing Roads, Advancing Equity.”

NRDC continues to advocate that equitable use of congestion pricing can make our communities healthier and safer, cut congestion and improve mobility outcomes for those who have been most disadvantaged by past transportation decisions.
