Managing Director, Power, Climate & Energy

Kit Kennedy heads the newly formed Power division within NRDC's Climate & Energy department. In this role, she leads NRDC's federal, regional, and state advocacy to decarbonize the electricity sector in an affordable and equitable manner and to create a clean, resilient electricity grid. Kennedy has more than thirty years of experience as a climate and clean energy leader, advocate, and attorney. She served as a special assistant attorney general and directed the Environmental Protection Bureau at the New York Attorney General’s Office from 2007 to 2010. She has taught environmental and clean energy classes at Yale Law School, Fordham Law School, and Vermont Law School. Kennedy serves on the boards of the Keystone Policy Center, the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, and the executive board of the New York State Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section. She is also a member of the Keystone Energy Board and the American College of Environmental Lawyers. Kennedy is a co-founder of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York and the New York Offshore Wind Alliance. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard College. She is based in New York City.
