America Has Lost an Extraordinary Environmental Champion

WASHINGTON - Former Rep. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives and a leading environmental champion, passed away today.

Following is a statement by Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“America has lost an extraordinary environmental champion, someone who played a leadership role in many of our foundational laws that continue to protect the environment and public health. He helped create the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. What a legacy.’’
