America Must Stay on Track to First-Ever Curbs on Climate Pollution

WASHINGTON (September 11, 2014) –  Franz Matzner, the associate director of government affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council, issued this statement today in response to a letter from several senators asking the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to extend the public comment period on its proposed standards to reduce carbon pollution from power plants operating today in the United States:

“Climate change already poses dire risks to our health, communities and economy.  We welcome any serious effort to ensure the strongest, most effective standard is put in place.  However, nothing should hinder the Environmental Protection Agency from fulfilling its deadline next June for finalizing the first-ever standards to curb the carbon pollution spewing from the nation’s power plants.”
