NRDC Brings Finance Expertise to Washington, D.C. office

Philip Henderson Joins Center for Market Innovation

WASHINGTON (June 1, 2010) -- NRDC is pleased to introduce Philip Henderson as new Senior Financial Policy Specialist with the Center of Market Innovation.

NRDC’s Center for Market Innovation works with the business community to create a new dynamic in the marketplace, one that encourages clean and profitable solutions to environmental challenges. Henderson will focus in the near term on implementing policies, tools, and new capabilities to achieve improved building efficiency. Buildings account for approximately 40 percent of total energy consumption and a similar percentage of greenhouse gas pollution. Achieving efficiency improvements in buildings across all sectors – residential, educational and commercial – can meaningfully improve the health of our economy and our environment.

“CMI strives to become a uniquely effective bridge between capital and policy, thereby enabling profitable solutions to environmental challenges,” said Peter Malik, CMI director.

Henderson brings substantial corporate, legal, and policy experience related to real estate finance and technology, having most recently served as General Counsel to Overture Technologies, a firm that creates decisioning systems for financial institutions. He also served as Counsel to LendingTree from 1999 to 2006. In these roles he led strategic efforts to increase transparency in real estate financing, to apply new technologies to the transaction, and he led projects related to federal policy. He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia.

“We have a tremendous opportunity to achieve greater efficiency in buildings – it improves the health of our economy, our people, and our environment. I’m thrilled to join the leading team working on how to implement practical solutions that make real progress,” Henderson said.
