NRDC President: US Climate Assistance “a lifeline” for Vulnerable Nations

WASHINGTON —The Biden administration announced a $1 billion contribution to the Green Climate Fund to help build climate resilience and speed the clean energy transition in vulnerable countries.

Manish Bapna, president and CEO of NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) made the following statement:

“This is an important contribution toward paying down the environmental debt the United States and other wealthy countries must shoulder to support vulnerable communities worldwide. It’s a lifeline for vulnerable communities strapped for the resources to invest in clean energy and climate resilience.

“It takes the United States two-thirds of the way toward fulfilling its 2014 pledge to provide $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund. The administration must work with Congress to deliver on the remaining $1 billion, without delay, and continue to demonstrate political support for the replenishment of this vital fund later this year.”
