Park Service Helps Ensure Cleaner, Quieter Yellowstone National Park

WASHINGTON (October  22, 2013) –  Capping years of legal challenges, an outpouring of public comment and several federal environmental assessments, the National Park Service came down on the side of  preserving Yellowstone National Park today by issuing final rules that will significantly reduce noise and air pollution from snowmobiles and snowcoaches in America’s first national park.

Chuck Clusen, Director, National Parks and Alaska Projects at the Natural Resources Defense Council, made the following comment:

“Silence is golden. One of the best places to experience the quiet symphony of nature, away from the distracting roar of snow machines, is in deep winter in America’s first park, our majestic Yellowstone. The National Park Service decision takes an important step toward recognizing this enduring value. This will help ensure winter visitors to Yellowstone encounter a cleaner, quieter park in the years to come.”
