World Bank President Needs to Lead a Climate Finance Transformation

The bank cannot stem global poverty without addressing climate hazard and harm.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Biden nominated seasoned executive Ajay Banga to become the next World Bank president.

Manish Bapna, president and CEO of the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) made the following statement:

“The bank needs a transformative leader with a clear vision for ambitious climate action, the skills to guide a complex and troubled institution through foundational change, and an unshakable commitment to get the job done.

“Billions of the world’s most vulnerable people are being forced to pay a price they can’t afford for a crisis they didn’t cause.

“The bank can’t stem global poverty without addressing climate hazard and harm. The world can’t confront the climate crisis without making sure developing countries are part of the solution. We are all, truly, in this together.”
