World Must Translate Lima Progress to Ambitious Climate Actions

LIMA, PERU (December 14, 2014) – The Natural Resources Defense Council issued the following statement upon the conclusion of climate talks in Lima, Peru, held in advance of the 2015 gathering in Paris, where countries are to declare legally binding commitments to reduce carbon pollution and other measures to address climate change.

Jake Schmidt, NRDC’s International Program Director, made these comments:

“Here’s the good news from the Lima talks: Countries around the world now fully understand that early next year they must commit to ambitious reductions in climate pollution and bold measures to slow global warming. Most key countries are laying the groundwork at home for more aggressive commitments to cut their carbon pollution. There is no question about this point anymore. The progress from Lima must result in pledges for real action by the time the world convenes in Paris. Only together can we avoid the worst impacts of climate change, and for the sake of our children and future generations we must.”
